Palm, Inc. has announced today that its high-end mobile phone Palm Pre, the first of its devices to run under the newly unveiled Palm webOS mobile platform, will become available in Canada exclusively on Bell Mobility's 3G high-speed mobile network, sometime during the second half of the ongoing year.

“We're excited to bring Pre to Canada with Bell Mobility,” said Brodie Keast, senior vice president of marketing for Palm, Inc. “We've seen enormous interest from mobile operators worldwide and fully expect to continue to expand distribution for Pre, putting it within reach of more and more customers.”

The Palm Pre is expected to be launched in the United States as soon as next month with the wireless carrier Sprint, yet both Palm and the operator have kept under silence the exact release day of the device. For what it's worth, the Pre is expected to see a lot of traction on the market, as it sports breakthrough user interface and hardware design and has been developed so as to feel “natural in your hand and comfortably small in your pocket.”

The device sports a sliding full QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen display, and can be used both closed and opened, being ideal for phone calls, web browsing, music, photos and video navigation in the first case, and optimized for email and text messaging in the second. In addition, it also offers fast access to content both on the device and on the Web through the revolutionary webOS platform.

Palm has developed the operating system exclusively for mobile use, as it can provide necessary information from all the places it can be found in, including the handset itself, or at work or on the web, into a single integrated view. According to the company, both the Pre and its webOS are meant to give users the impression that they think in advance of one's needs.

“Bell is excited to be only the second carrier in the world to announce the 3G Pre,” said Adel Bazerghi, senior vice president of Products for Bell Mobility. “With the unique user experience of the world's first webOS phone, running on the country's largest 3G network, we're confident that Canadians will embrace Pre as the phone for their lives today.”
