Telecoms giant Bell Canada is the first in the country to offer a service that provides full-length, pay-per-view movies on mobile phones.

The operator has already secured content deals with Disney and Sony. The service, named Mobile Movies, will allow users to stream films directly onto their capable mobile phones and feature DVD functionality like pause, fast-forward and rewind.

"Bell Mobility clients across the country can now have full-length feature films at their fingertips. It's a Canadian first and we're happy to be leading the way," said Wade Oosterman, President of Bell Mobility. "The addition of Mobile Movies to our roster of Bell Mobility mobile content also underscores that the wireless phone has become the device of choice to deliver a full range of music, video and other entertainment to people on the go."

Users can browse movie information-like trailers and plot summaries before deciding on a title and will also be able to exit the movies at any time and resume watching from where they left off.

During the rental period, they can view the downloaded film for unlimited number of times. The rental period, depending on the title, ranges from 24 hours to a week. The movie library includes several genres and as such, users can chose from action, comedy, drama and horror and a wide selection of both newly released and classic movies from major distributors like Disney or Sony Pictures Television International.

Movies can also be browsed by release date, alphabetical listing, most popular and current trailers. The Mobile Movies service is available at C$5.99 per film and a subscription to a web-browsing enabled package.
