As expected, Bell Canada introduces the Samsung Galaxy W 4G Android smartphone and confirms the rumors regarding its price tag.

It appears that the device is now available for purchase via Bell for only $49.95 (35 EUR) with a new three-year contract, or for a suggested retail price of $249.95 (185 EUR).

Although the deals are not that good, customers may want to commit to a shorter 2-year or 1-year contract and get the Galaxy S W 4G for $199.95 (150 EUR) or $224.95 (170 EUR), respectively.

Samsung Galaxy W 4G is pretty decent for a smartphone priced under $250 (185 EUR), but there’s no telling if the handset maker will continue to support it with software updates.

Currently, the Galaxy W 4G is delivered with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board, and has yet to be confirmed to receive the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

Although Samsung announced that most of its high-end Galaxy smartphones would be upgraded to Android 4.0, the company did not specify which model will get the update first.

The Galaxy W surely meets the hardware requirements to receive the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, as the smartphone is equipped with a 1.4 GHz single core processor, which is complemented by an Adreno 205 GPU.

The phone packs 4GB onboard memory, 512 MB of RAM and 2GB or ROM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Samsung Galaxy W 4G sports a pretty decent 3.7-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen that supports 16 million colors and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

With 4G support that provides users with up to 14.4 Mbps download speeds and up to 5.76 Mbps upload, the Galaxy W 4G offers a smooth Internet browsing experience.

According to TELUS, the phone’s 1500 Li-Ion battery should provide up to 3 hours of talk time or up to 12 days of standby time.
