14 DAY TRIAL // It looks like all Indian handset manufacturers plan to try their hand on Android tablets, as more important brands announce their upcoming devices.
Unfortunately for the non-regional manufacturers, the Indian mobile industry is known for its extremely affordable prices, but only when it comes to Indian products.
In this regard, Beetel, an arm of Bharti Enterprises, unveiled last week its plans to launch a 7-inch tablet carrying Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system.
Although the handset manufacturers has yet to announce the tablet's exact release date, it appears that the device was shown on Sagar Telecom webstore.
Dubbed Magiq, the soon to be available Froyo tablet is priced at Rs. 8,900 (about $200), which makes it one of the cheapest tablet solutions available on the market.
Even though the minor online retailer Sagar Telecom pulled the tablet from its website soon after it has gone live, Magiq's launch in India is imminent.
It seems that the online retailer listed the tablet ahead of the official launch of the product, thus it was forced by the manufacturer to remove it immediately.
Furthermore, Beetel stated that the Magiq would be launched very soon and that the tablet image presented by Sagar Telecom was not the correct representation of the device, hence another reason for the online retailer to remove it.
When it comes to specs sheet, Beetel's Magiq tablet does not impress, especially that it comes with Android 2.2 Froyo on board.
However, this might be understandable if we think that the tablet has a 7-inch touchscreen with 800 x 480 pixel resolution, which is not yet fully compatible with Google's Honeycomb platform.
Equipped with a single core 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, Magiq packs 8GB of internal memory, a 2-megapixel main camera, as well as a secondary front-facing camera for video calls.
It is also worth mentioning that Beetel's Magiq tablet supports 3G and GSM capabilities and is powered by a high-capacity 2200 mAh Li-Ion battery.
