The team re-thought the entire core structure of the title

Patrick Bach, the executive producer working on Battlefield 4, reveals that the entire team working on the fourth game in the Battlefield series is keen to question the core elements of the franchise and innovate rather than simply expand on them.

He tells Eurogamer that, “We want to build the best possible Battlefield game. But to go beyond Battlefield 3, back in 2011, we had to rethink what we were trying to achieve.”

Bach says that technology is no longer a problem for DICE, after they created the Frostbite 3 engine, and that gameplay innovation is the focus for the Battlefield team.

The main elements of the first-person shooter series will be present and the team will ditch all the mechanics that are not central to the franchise.

Battlefield 4 will be launched later during 2013.
