Even if Electronic Arts was a bit ambiguous with the official announcement of Battlefield 3, plenty of leaks happened over the weekend on the web, showcasing a lot of details about the new first-person shooter coming from EA's DICE studio.

Battlefield 3 was formally revealed last week, through the cover of Game Informer magazine and a teaser trailer released on its own website.

Now, lots of other details began popping up on the Internet, showcasing pieces of new information, some of its main features as well as the first downloadable content that's going to be launched for the game after its release.

According to a Swedish retailer site (via CVG), Battlefield 3 will take players through different locations all over the world, including Paris, Tehran and New York.

"In Battlefield 3, players step into the role of the elite U.S. Marines where they will experience heart-pounding single player missions and competitive multiplayer actions ranging across diverse locations from around the globe including Paris, Tehran and New York."

The listing of the game also included details about Frostbite 2, the new engine at the heart of Battlefield 3, that "takes animation, destruction, lighting, scale and audio to new heights," and allows the game to immerse "players physically and emotionally to the world around them like never before."

New animations and options will be available to gamers, including dragging fallen comrades to safety or mounting weapons on almost any terrain as well as possibility to pilot fighter jets, alongside other land, air and sea vehicles.

Urban combat is set to play an important role in Battlefield 3, as players need to navigate war zones from the USA, Middle East and Europe, encountering "claustrophobic streets, metropolitan downtowns, and open, vehicle-friendly landscapes as you fight your way through the war of tomorrow."

Game Informer also reports that Battlefield 3 has a massive 64-player multiplayer mode for the PC.

What's more, a leaked poster shows that the Battlefield 3 Limited Edition will net players a special four-map pack, called Back to Karkand, which reimagines fan favorite maps like Strike at Karkand with the new technology in the upcoming game.

If you don't buy the Limited Edition, the DLC will be launched after the game's debut, for a price.

As of yet, however, all we know is that Battlefield 3 is set to appear in fall of 2011, for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
