Electronic Arts has revealed the pretty impressive pre-order numbers for its Battlefield 3 first person shooter, confirming that before the yesterday's release in North America and Friday's launch in Europe, the number of people who pre-ordered the game was "close to 3 million pre-sales," based on EA's internal estimates.

This is definitely great news for the company, as last we heard, pre-orders for Battlefield 3 were between 1.5 and 2 million. Without a doubt, however, the open beta stage ran for the game at the end of September and beginning of November, which saw more than 8 million people participate, made a lot of people put money down for the game before its launch this week.

This huge interest in Battlefield 3 makes the game's release "the biggest first-person shooter launch in EA history."

We've already had a quick look at the game and were very impressed, so stay tuned for a full review of Battlefield 3 later this week.

I think you meant October, not November.

Regardless, it's good to see that the monopoly of Activision/Treyarch/Sledgehammer Games is going to take at the very least, a slight cripple in their sales.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to drop another ~$60 just to feed that cash cow. Reasons: Who cares about 60 frames per second? If that's CoD's main selling point of graphics... I'm sorry, not worth it. In fact, it's been years since Activision has made a new engine, and I'll be d***ed if I'll pay that much for an updated Modern Warfare 2.

BF3 = better graphics, better gameplay, more "realistic".
