Electronic Arts and DICE have confirmed that the upcoming Battlefield 3 first person shooter will see its open beta stage start on September 29, across all platforms, and a bit early for those who pre-ordered the game on the PC or bought the Medal of Honor Tier 1 Edition.

Battlefield 3 is pretty much one of the biggest titles to arrive at the end of the year, fighting it out with Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in terms of military first person shooters. As such, we've seen a huge variety of details pop up, from videos and screenshots to the official PC system requirements that appeared yesterday.

Now, EA and DICE, the publisher and developer, respectively, of the game have confirmed when the open beta stage for Battlefield 3 will start and a variety of details about it.

Battlefield 3 open multiplayer beta stage will start on September 29 across all platforms, meaning PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners will be able to get in on the online action.

Early access into the beta, on September 27, is available to either PC owners who already pre-ordered Battlefield 3 through EA's own Origin digital distribution service, or who will do so before September 25, as well as customers who already bought the Medal of Honor Tier 1 edition last year.

They will receive codes for the early access beta in emails before September 27 so they can download the beta client and play before the rest of the world can do so, on the 29.

PC users will need to use the Origin service to get the beta, while console owners can just visit their PlayStation Store or Xbox Live Marketplace, to get it.

Check out the contents of the actual beta below, straight from EA and DICE.

- The beta is set in Paris on the Operation Metro map, where players work their way from lush parks on the outskirts of the city to a dark, bombed-out metro station, to the vibrant streets around the Paris stock exchange.

- Two elite tactical units square off in the series' popular Rush Mode. One side takes the offensive by attacking M-COM stations while the opposing squad defends and protects.

- Gamers in the beta can also log onto Battlelog, the game's free social media network that allows gamers to communicate and compete with friends, track their stats and share their progress. Battlelog extends the in-game experience to be accessible anywhere, whether on a PC, console or handheld device. For more details on the Battlefield 3 beta check out the official FAQ here.
