14 DAY TRIAL // In January, singer Shakira announced that she and her fiancé of 11 years, Antonio de la Rua, were no longer an item. Speculation on whether a third party was involved immediately began – and Gerard Pique seems to be confirming that’s the case.
The football star uploaded a photo of him and Shakira at their joint birthday party on Facebook and, for some reason or another, the Spanish media is taking it as “confirmation” that they’re an item, TypicallySpanish reports.
The two have been linked in the press before but, while Shakira has denied any romantic involvement, Pique only repeatedly said they were very good friends.
The photo of the two together (but not alone) is believed to be a half-confirmation that they’re actually an item.
“The rumors continue of a relationship between Barcelona player Gerard Pique and the Colombian singer, Shakira,” the e-zine says.
“Last week we heard that Shakira has rented the luxury home in Barcelona which used to belong to the swimmer David Meca, to use as her base for Europe, and a month ago she announced the end of an 11 year relationship with Antonio de la Rua,” TypicallySpanish adds.
“Pique has never denied the relationship, speaking only of friendship, but today, Monday, he has placed a picture on his Facebook page showing his last birthday party, and the presence of Shakira. The Spanish media is, of course, all over it,” reports the e-zine.
As we also noted at the time, Shakira did not give any reason for the breakup from Antonio in the statement she posted on her official webpage.
She did, though, speak wonderfully of him and insisted that they remained the best of friends. Moreover, she said, even if not a couple anymore, they would continue to do business together as before.
One year ago, reports were swirling that Shakira had a fling with tennis pro Rafael Nadal, with whom she shot the video for “Gypsy.”
That rumor turned out to be false, so there is a chance this one too, with Gerard Pique, is also unfounded.
