Avril Lavigne is getting ready to release a brand new album, her first after nearly 4 years since 2007’s “The Best Damn Thing.” The lead single off it, “What the Hell,” just got a brand new video – and it’s quite an amazing way of making a comeback.

The video shows Avril running away from her boyfriend, whom she does love (as we see at the end) but whose love she considers less important than her own need for freedom.

Therefore, the need to run and re-affirm her independence; after that, she can go back to him, it would seem.

MTV News says that Avril’s new video comes in two variants: the traditional 2D one, that you can also see embedded at the end of the video, and in 3D, which requires special 3D glasses and TV.

There’s one particular scene in the latter version that Avril loved the most how it turned out, she says for the aforementioned media outlet, namely the one with the concert and the crowd-surfing.

“The music video’s in 3D, and my favorite part of the video is the rock-out scene at the end where I jump onstage and I’m with my band,” the singer reveals.

“When we shot it and I got to watch it back in 3D with the glasses and actually you can see the crowd’s hands, and it felt like you were live in a crowd, so it was kind of cool,” she adds.

In between the previous and the upcoming album, Lavigne has been through quite a lot, including a divorce, a public battle with her record label, constant media scrutiny and finding love again in a new relationship.

She says all that means she’s grown a lot these years, which will obviously be reflected in the album, called “Goodbye Lullaby.”

The lead single is more like the material she put out before 2007, and, because of this, sort of like a bridge between those tracks and the new ones.

“This album overall is kind of bittersweet. It’s full of sad and happy emotions. The message overall is about moving forward and coming out of that and finding inner strength. The record’s a little more raw,” Avril explains.

“It’s a more emotional record, and you can really feel that. I went for those raw, vulnerable moments, but having ‘What the Hell’ be the first single is more like my older stuff. It’s a good way to bridge it,” she adds.
