Ubisoft has confirmed that one possible historical setting for Assassin's Creed 5, feudal era Japan, won't be featured by the new game.

Assassin's Creed 5 is set to launch later this year judging by Ubisoft's track record, and last year's Black Flag included quite a few references to possible historical settings for the next game.

Among them was feudal Japan, a longtime rumor among fans of the series who want to see how the Assassin's Creed series would handle samurais, ninjas, and shoguns.

Ubisoft Toronto's Jade Raymond, however, has dispelled the possibility of seeing Japan in the next Assassin's Creed game in an interview with AdWeek.

She did mention, however, that the next game in the series would take place in her favorite historical era, but she didn't say just what it might be.

According to recent rumors, Assassin's Creed 5 will take place during the industrial revolution and is set to launch for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms on November 4, 2014.

The Assassin's Creed series has already explored quite a few different historical periods, from the Crusades in the very first game, to the Renaissance in the Ezio trilogy, to the American revolution and the golden age of piracy.
