Apple  has updated the MobileMe Control Panel for Windows users, adding support for Microsoft Outlook 2007, or 2010 (32-bit) with the new MobileMe Calendar. The update is available for free download either from Apple’s Support Downloads section, via the Mac OS X built-in Software Update mechanism, or from Softpedia.

Developed by Apple themselves, MobileMe is an online service with the purpose of syncing a user’s email, contacts, and calendars over the across a range of devices, including mobile phones.

“MobileMe Control Panel is required to manage iDisk settings and for syncing of contacts, calendars, and bookmarks on a Windows PC,” Apple explains on the Support / Downloads section of its web site.

“This update is required for using Microsoft Outlook 2007 or 2010 (32-bit) with the new MobileMe Calendar,” the Mac maker informs, referring to the 1.6.3 release issued yesterday.

“MobileMe is the online service from Apple that automatically syncs your email, contacts, and calendars over the air across all your devices. It also helps you find your lost iPhone or iPad,” the description adds.

MobileMe has built-in security features that help owners of an iPhone or iPad find their lost device. Also available as an iOS application called Find My iPhone, the feature also supports the new, fourth-generation iPod touch thanks to a recent update.

Version 1.0.1 of the mobile app also includes translation fixes for French, German, and Japanese languages, and fixes for various other bugs, according to an early September announcement from Apple.

A benefit available exclusively to MobileMe customers, the Find My iPhone iOS app can locate your iPhone or iPad on a map, display a message and optionally play a sound for two minutes at full volume, remotely set a passcode lock on your device, and even remotely wipe it.

MobileMe Control Panel for Windows 1.6.3 requires Windows XP Home or Professional SP3
Windows Vista SP1 or later, or Windows 7, Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007 or 2010 (32-bit) for calendar sync, a MobileMe Account, and iTunes 9.2 or later.
