Actress trained hard to be able to shoot flying scenes in Disney’s upcoming movie

Angelina Jolie will be back on the big screen this May, in Disney’s highly anticipated live-action film “Maleficent,” in which she plays the evil witch. In a newly released teaser trailer titled “Wings,” her character is shown with a pair of stunning black wings she claims to have “lost.”

That teaser is embedded below, in case you haven’t got the chance to see it just yet.

Angelina makes it look easy to wave those giant wings around but, as she says for USA Today in a new interview, it was no trifling feat. In fact, she had to train hard to be physically able to shoot those flying scenes, a hint of which also appears in the video.

She explains she was hooked up on rigs with her giant pair of wings and her giant horns, and describes the experience as “a big dance with a lot of people.”

“You’re almost like a puppet with all these people moving (beneath you). When you go to the left or the right all of you have to move together,” she says.

So, to be able to do all this while also not breaking character, the actress had to train hard. She’s usually not the kind to back out of a physically demanding role, but, for this one, Angelina had to do the one workout she actually can’t stand: yoga.

“She made me do yoga. And I have no patience for yoga. It’s not something I do easily, because I’m not a still person. But I was forced to do yoga because (to fly) you have to have your core strength to be able to hold yourself,” she says.

She trained with Eunice Huthart for that, who is not only a close friend and Shiloh’s godmother, but also a longtime stunt coordinator.

As we speak, various celebrity bloggers are pointing out one minor thing in Angelina’s apparently innocent comment on her workout routine for the film: namely that she hates yoga, which happens to be the favorite sport of Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt’s former wife.

It’s probably nothing, in the sense that Jolie probably didn’t mean anything by this, but it’s funny if you consider how Jennifer won’t stop talking about yoga whenever the topic comes up.

On a more serious note, the movie for which Jolie had to do yoga even though she doesn’t like it, “Maleficent,” will be released in theaters on May 30.
