Samsung and Reliance Communications have partnered to bring the first CDMA mobile phone to run Android in India. The new Samsung Galaxy i899 can be “booked” on the network operator's website on the “upcoming” section. Even though the smartphone has already been launched in Europe, US and China, India has been skipped for some reason until now. Known as one of the most prolific emerging markets in the world, India will soon receive its first CDMA 800 Mhz smartphone to run the Android operating system.

Samsung Galaxy i899 comes with a wide range of pre-installed social networking applications such as: Orkut, Facebook, Gmail, Googletalk and GoogleMap. In terms of messaging capabilities, users will be able to take advantage of the Push & Pull mail service. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP support and microUSB, as well as the Reliance Netconnect service. The smarpthone has 230 MB internal memory, which can be expanded up to 32GB.

The device boasts a 3.2-inch AMOLED touch screen with a resolution of 320x480 pixels and support for 16 millions colors. Those that want to use their phones as cameras will be happy to find that the smartphone also includes a 3.2-megapixel camera with LED flash. The device is powered by an 800MHz processor and, of course, runs the Android operating system, although there is no info as to what version it embeds.

Other highlights of the gadget that have already been listed on Reliance Communications’ website include: Mobile Safari web browser, high capacity battery (1440mAh), as well as Music & Video Player that supports DivX video playback. There is no information available regarding the actual availability of the smartphone, nor the selling price, but fans of the brand can book themselves a piece, by registering on the operator's website.
