PayPal’s mobile team announced on Wednesday, through a blog post published on The PayPal Blog, that mobile phone users who owned an Android-based handset could enjoy a new mobile app developed especially for them, offering them the possibility to access their PayPal account directly from their mobile device.

According to Eric Duprat from PayPal’s mobile team, the application developed for Android includes the same “state-of-the-art technology” that PayPal uses on its website. Besides being able to access the PayPal account from the phone, Android users will also be provided with a number of other features as well.

Among the functionalities that the PayPal Android application can offer, we should first mention the direct integration with the contact list, which is meant to enable users to select people's names from their contact list and send them money directly, without having to remember the number or the email of different persons to do that.

At the same time, the application also provides access to the recent history, so that users are able to check on the latest transactions directly from the handset, in case they need to make sure that some of the payments have come through. Moreover, they will also be able to access their balances in the currencies they hold.

According to Eric Duprat's blog post, the new PayPal application can already be found on the Android Market, so all that users will have to do to get it is head to the finance category on the portal. The features that it comes with should provide ease of use to a lot of Android phone owners, while the fact that it also sports the same safety measures as the website should appeal to a lot of users who were in need of such a solution.
