More updates on the Gingerbread for the Canadian Xperia X10 smartphone have just surfaced the Web.

According to Sony Ericsson Canada, Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update for Xperia X10 device will be deployed in the coming weeks.

Currently, the update is already available in most of the countries where the phone was released, but Canada seems to be among the last to get it.

Rogers has come forward three weeks ago and stated that it will support the update but it does not have a release time frame.

This is probably due to the fact that the update is developed by Sony Ericsson and Google, and has nothing to do with the carrier.

Anyway, it appears that Sony Ericsson Canada has given Xperia X10 owners some hopes regarding the Gingerbread update:

Hi everyone, the update on the X10 2.3 upgrade will be available in the coming weeks. We know this is not what you were hoping to hear and we apologize for the inconvenience this causes. We will continue to keep you posted on updates to the timeline. Thanks for your patience.”

As soon as the update is available for download, Rogers Xperia X10 owners will be able to bring their smartphones to the latest Android version.

In addition, the update adds the following new features and improvements:

- Facebook inside Xperia – a series of unique integrations of Facebook into your multimedia apps, phonebook and calendar; - The possibility to use your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot; - Music player with equalizer; - USB tethering – share your 3G data connection via the USB connector; - Photo widget – one click access to your photo gallery app; - App tray sorting – arrange your apps in the order you want them.

The handset maker will probably unveil more details in the next days, so stay tuned for more updates on the Gingerbread release for the Xperia X10.
