Samsung Fascinate, Verizon Wireless' flavor of Galaxy S, is expected to receive an update to the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system in the near future, following the release of such a software for another version of Samsung's handset, the Vibrant. The upcoming near availability of the software is suggested not only by the fact that Vibrant got updated, but also because an official build of Froyo for Fascinate has leaked into the wild.

Not to mention that wireless carrier Sprint said recently that it is also gearing up for the release of the OS upgrade for its own Galaxy S device, the Epic 4G.

Although the South Korean mobile phone maker started to provide Galaxy S users with an update to the newer platform version a few months ago, US users were left behind, and only some of them got the update starting with last week.

However, Samsung and Verizon are expected to come up with a software update for the Fascinate as well, and the recent leak shows that things were already set in motion.

Info on the availability of this leaked version of Android 2.2 Froyo for Fascinate emerged over on this thread on Android Central forums, though the software itself was not made available for download.

However, as soon as it lands on phones, users would enjoy a nice range of enhancements over the previous OS flavor available for Samsung Fascinate.

The mobile phone maker already touted some of the improvements that would be delivered to users along with the new software solution, including faster performance, or improved web browsing.

The Android 2.2 Froyo OS brings forth support for Adobe's Flash Player 10.1, which would enable users to access more online content than before.

What remains to be seen is when exactly would the new software update make it to Fascinate units out there, so keep an eye on this space for more on this. In the meantime, you can read more about the leak on the said forum thread.
