Computer maker Dell and wireless carrier AT&T are expected to make available for download a new software update for the Streak tablet PC as soon as tomorrow, February 1st, bring the OS on this device up to the Android 2.2 Froyo flavor.

In all fairness, this would not be the first time Dell and AT&T are rumored to plan making a move in this direction, but it seems that more solid proof of something being cooked here emerged.

For instance, Dell's Software Update website now has a special page up, aimed at offering info on the software updates available for AT&T's Dell Streak devices.

Nothing is listed there for the time being, but the emergence of this page would certainly make users hope that the release of the software is imminent.

Moreover, proof of things being set in motion comes from leading retailer Best Buy, which reportedly informed employees not too long ago that the Dell Streak would be set to run under Android 2.2 Froyo in a matter of days.

“You’ve been asking and now there’s an answer! The Dell Streak will receive an over-the-air (OTA) update to Android 2.2 on Tuesday, Feb. 1. This information should help generate excitement with customers who have been asking for the update,” Best Buy's message reportedly states.

February 1st is only tomorrow, and, if the rumor pans out, many AT&T users would have a reason to rejoice soon.

However, as stated above, we've heard the “coming soon” phrase for this software update quite a lot during the past several months, but nothing happened for the time being.

Unlocked Dell Streak devices received the upgrade a while ago, but the AT&T-branded devices are still behind.

We'll keep our fingers crossed for the rumor to pan out, but we won't be sure on the arrival of this OS upgrade until the first devices get updated. Keep an eye on this space for additional info on the matter.
