The latest flavor of Google's Android operating system, Android 2.1, arrived on the market at the beginning of the ongoing year on the Nexus One by HTC, which is sold via Google's own web store, and is now expected to soon become available for more handsets on the market. Among them, we have the HTC Hero and the Motorola CLIQ, both of which are reportedly gearing up to taste the software update sometime in mid-March.

The fact that the Android 2.1 operating system will soon become available for more handsets out there is already known, as Google and various handset vendors said previously that this would happen. However, no exact release dates were provided for none of the involved Android-based mobile phones, and learning that HTC Hero and Motorola CLIQ are so close to receiving the solution should make a lot of users rejoice.

One other Android phone out there which is set to soon taste Android 2.1 is the Motorola DROID, which was already confirmed to receive the new OS version as soon as this week. While no specific details on the improvements that will become available with 2.1 for DROID were unveiled, rumor has it that one should expect for multi-touch capabilities in the browser (the same as in Google Maps), and other more.

As for CLIQ and Hero, there are great chances that some of these capabilities will become available for them too. When it comes to HTC's device, one should also look for the HTC Sense solution to be included in the package, especially since this is the first handset that was released with Sense on board. However, no exact details on which versions of the device will receive the update were unveiled at the moment, but its arrival was confirmed by HTC, according to Engadget.

One way or the other, Nexus One will soon stop being the only mobile phone on the market to boast Android 2.1 all over it. Not to mention that the update is also expected to enable users of older Android-based devices to enjoy Adobe's Flash Player 10.1 when it arrives on the market later in the first half of the ongoing year.
