Still no sign of the official solution

Mobile phone maker Motorola announced several month ago plans to provide the owners of its Motorola CLIQ handset with a new software update, but failed to do so until now. We're referring here to the Android 2.1 platform upgrade that Motorola was supposed to deliver to CLIQ owners before the end of the second quarter of the ongoing year, and which was delayed indefinitely, it seems. However, Motorola CLIQ users have now the possibility to try out the Android 2.1 platform on their devices sooner than expected.

Unfortunately, the available solution is not an official one for the time being, though there are users who would welcome it anyway. According to a recent post on the modmymobile forums (via Android Central), the Android 2.1 update is already present on various download sites, but it comes from a leaked ROM, and not from an official source. However, it seems that those who would like to give it a try should expect to benefit from root access right from the start, as well as from Motorola's Blur UI.

Having Motorola delaying the CLIQ update for such a long time certainly made a lot of users angry. The leaked Android 2.1 solution for Motorola CLIQ certainly sounds as appealing as it can be, but users should think twice before giving it a try. At the same time, we should note that the installation of this update would require wiping out of the handset, something that might lead to the loss of various personal files. Thus, performing a backup of all data on the phone prior to the installation would be recommended.

Since this is not an official solution, chances are that not all things would go as planned with the installation, something that might result in damaged devices and in voided warranty. Motorola might be late at the Android 2.1 party, but chances are that it would release an official software in the near future, and one might want to wait for that software update to arrive before trying out the unofficial release.
