Grand Theft Auto V might be little more than a trailer at this point but many analysts are expecting the Rockstar made video game to become one of the best selling titles of 2012 when it is released, presumably at some point in early autumn or late summer.

Jesse Divnich, who is an analyst watching the video game industry for the market research firm EEDAR, has told IndustryGamers that, “It goes without saying that GTA V will be one of the year's biggest releases, but I will take it one step farther and say GTA V will be 2012's biggest release.”

He added, “Don't get me wrong, Call of Duty will undoubtedly be huge, as it is every year and it may even grow, but if I had to call what will be a photo finish race, I will go with GTA V.”

Activision has confirmed that it plans to launch a new Call of Duty video game during the fall of 2012 but the publisher has not said what kind of experience it plans to deliver or which of its many development studios is taking the lead, although most gamers believe that the heavy lifting is being done by Treyarch.

Rockstar has released the trailer for Grand Theft Auto V during November, after teasing it for one week, and since then the company has been silent on what experience it plans to deliver.

Gamers have responded very well to the trailer but given the track record of the Call of Duty series, which has delivered the number one entertainment launch in the world for the last two years, it is hard to see how GTA V can top its performance.

Rockstar has said that the next GTA will be the most ambitious experience it has ever created, both in term of the size of the world and when it comes to the depth of the gameplay mechanics.
