Twisted, dark stories are back

American McGee's Alice is still considered one of the craziest and most twisted games ever released, a must-play for every gamer in the world. After the success recorded by Alice, the game designer worked on two other titles, Scrapland (a mediocre game) and Bad Day in LA, a total failure, criticized by every gamer who tried it. However, American McGee did not give up, went back to fairy tales' land and created Grimm, an episodic series of games which just got launched, promising us a great experience.

The concept is pretty interesting, we must admit: Grimm, the game's main character, is a dwarf who believes that the lessons offered by original fairy tales were lost over time and replaced with "happily ever after" endings for all characters, whether they deserve it or not. So, Grimm embarks on a quest to transform these joyful interpretations of the stories into twisted, dark versions.

"The opportunity to work with GameTap to develop truly unique content in this new episodic format has been a dream come true," said American McGee, creative director and founder of Spicy Horse Games. "Grimm is a fairy tale adventure that incorporates innovative, mainstream play mechanics with classic elements such as platforming, power-ups, Easter-eggs, and more. Grimm offers something for the cranky dwarf in all of us."

24 standalone game episodes are planned to be released in Volumes, with the first American McGee's Grimm Volume consisting of eight episodes which will be published on a weekly basis. These episodes (and the dates) are: A Boy Learns What Fear Is, the first episode which was just released; Little Red Riding Hood (August 7h), The Fisherman and His Wife (August 14), Puss In Boots (August 21), The Girl Without Hands (August 28), Godfather Death (September 4), The Devil and His Three Golden Hairs (September 11) and The Beauty and the Beast (September 18).

The first episode, A Boy Learns What Fear Is, can be played for free on GameTap, the online portal where the game is launched. Also, all the following episodes will be free to play for the first 24 hours only, exclusively on GameTap. Later, they will be purchased for only $3.99 (which means that the entire first volume will cost around $21, not much).

So, if you're curious to see if American McGee has managed to create an Alice-like experience, just download the first episode of Grimm and start playing for free!
