Lately, cloud computing and Internet video streaming services have become a lot more popular among everyday users pushing content providers to upgrade their storage solutions in order to provide the high capacities required for such applications, Amax developing a multi-petabyte NAS to fulfill these needs.

Dubbed the StorMax-X1, this scalable NAS storage solution can reach hundreds of petabytes by adding more nodes, each one of these holding up to 516 hot-swappable 3.5-inch HDD or SSD drives per 42U standard rack cabinet.

These drives can be either SATA or SAS, as the StorMax-X1 supports both interfaces, all the installed HDDs being easily monitored and managed through a simple interface that allows for the dynamical change of the configuration volumes.

As a result, customers can create a massive storage pool, the StorMax-X1 featuring RAID 0,1,5,6 as well as RAID 10,50,60 span support, for protecting the data against any sort of failures.

Since controlling such an impressive number of drives, requires a powerful hardware configurations, the StorMax-X1 is equipped with dual Intel Xeon 5600 series processors with up to six cores and 12 threads, and 12MB L2 cache per processor as well as with up to 192GB DDR3 ECC memory.

Furthermore, each node features a redundant PSU and chassis cooling fans, two independent AC power inlets being available for each JBOD.

“The StorMax-X1 was developed in cooperation with our datacenter customers that required robust storage management, better resource utilization and centralized data protection,” said Winston Tang, product development manager for Amax.

“StorMax-X1 is a multi-petabyte capacity solution for managing massive amounts of data driven by rich media and social digital content demanded by content sharing platforms such as YouTube and Facebook.”

As far as availability is concerned, the StorMax-X1 is already listed on Amax' website, although its starting price hasn't been disclosed so far.
