Alltel has just announced that they will launch "mywaves", a mobile video service which makes it possible for customers to watch thousands of "Web videos" on their handsets. The carrier will be the first North American company to launch this service here.

This will give customers the possibility to benefit from access to professional programming user-generated videos and personal videos. It is available for download through Alltel Axcess Shop and also allows bookmarking for keeping track of the favorite media content.

"mywaves is the perfect complement to Alltel's video offerings, providing the short-form Web entertainment that appeals to a very different demographic, the mobile youth", said Rajeev Raman, founder and CEO for mywaves. The service also allows users to ask for text messages to be sent to them when new clips are available in specific channels they choose.

"mywaves gives us the ability to deliver thousands of videos directly to our customers, allowing them to further customize their wireless experience", considers Scott Moody, director of data services for Alltel Wireless. With this, "Our customers now have more video viewing options than ever before", he further added.

Alltel Wireless brings several exclusive features for its customers, including the "My Circle" plan, which allows them to choose 10 numbers from any network for placing free calls. There are also the Anytime Plan changes, which come as a considerable help for users who want to change their rate plan at any time and can do so without extending their contract.

"mywaves" runs on Qualcomm's BREW solution and will be available on several mobile phones, including LG AX8600; Motorola RAZR V3m, V3c, KRZR K1m and e815 and Samsung u520. Alltel plans on expanding the number of devices from their line of phone models which are capable of providing this feature. "mywaves" will be available for a monthly subscription of $4.
