Singer and songwriter shuts critics up, talks recent health scare and her music

Singer and songwriter Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of music icon Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley, has been plagued by plastic surgery rumors for at least one full year, but she’s finally had it with them so she’s taking concrete steps to prove they’re unfounded.

After lashing out at her critics on social media after a new round of these reports, she sat down with Good Morning America for a candid chat on the topic, but also on others of interest, such as the “unique pressures” of being the daughter of such famous parents and how that shaped her as an artist, her blooming music, and her very recent health scare.

You don’t have to worry about that last one: as you can see in the video segment embedded below, Alexa Ray says fainting on stage at the end of a performance was “sheer exhaustion” and nothing serious. She promises she’s ok now and simply shrugs off the highly mediated incident as “par for the course” given how hard she’d been working.

On plastic surgery, the singer says she has nothing to hide and she never had, either.

“It was interesting because they were comparing pictures of me from when I was between 16 to 18 to recent pictures of me now when I’m 28 years old,” she says of the first time the plastic surgery rumors emerged in the media.

“So of course I look different, but I can tell you right now that the only thing that is true, which I have been open about, is that I did have rhinoplasty surgery but no I haven’t had anything else done. I don’t even dye my hair,” she laughs.

When she addressed the same rumors on her social media account last month, she also explained that getting her stage makeup professionally done also changed her face because she also got face contouring, which highlights certain areas of the face to make them stand out.

Indeed, the photo shown in the GMA video is of her with stage makeup on. You can tell the difference between that and how she looks in the video, where we presume she has day makeup on: still applied by a professional but in a lesser quantity and much more toned down.

Alexa Ray has never lied about getting a nose job, so we might as well assume she’d be just as honest about other work she could have gotten, if it were ever the case.
