Singer comes across as very sweet and down to earth in new interview

American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert is currently touring the US with his Glam Nation Tour, which has proved to be a massive success with his fans. In between gigs, he also finds the time to do a photoshoot or to sit down for an interview, which, understandably, boosts his popularity. Judging by his recent talk with The Arizona Republic and how sweet and down to earth he comes across, it’s no wonder this happens.

A while back, Adam took to his Twitter to literally beg journalists to stop asking him about Lady Gaga and throw comparisons with her at him. However, that’s not to say that he’ll snap at anyone who disregards his request. Quite on the contrary, when the aforementioned media outlet asks him if he sees Gaga as a kindred spirit, Lambert was more than generous in his answer.

“I think we have similar backgrounds. She did some theater when she was younger and ended up running around with the club kids in New York. And I’d been doing theater since I was a kid and working professionally throughout my 20s in LA. And then I started exploring that whole underground crazy-club-kid culture. So yeah, I think we do kind of come from a similar place, and some of our influences are also the same. I wish I could play piano like her, but... (laughs),” Adam responds.

The singer also takes a few questions about what he made of his stay on American Idol and the voting process that eventually saw him coming in second, though many were willing to bet good money he’d win. Adam is far from resentful for winning – he’s actually happy for Kris Allen, saying he probably deserved it more than he did. Granted, this is not something one would hear from other stars, but, coming from Adam, it doesn’t sound like a lie. He also talks a bit about his experience on AI and says it was one of the most constructive periods of his life, from which he learned a lot of new things.

As for his debut album, the best selling “For Your Entertainment,” Adam urges critics not to take it out of the context in which it was made. “I mean, a lot of people don’t realize that we put the album together in three months, which is a very quick turnaround, all things considered. Given that and the fact that I was on tour with American Idol at the same time while I was recording, I think it’s pretty amazing. I really wanted the album to be as diverse as the styles that I explored on Idol. And yet, what was really important to me was to make something that was current and something that would be commercially viable. You know, this is a business and an art form,” the singer emphasizes.

No word yet on whether he’d come out with a new material but, hopefully, news of that will come once he’s done with the tour. In the meantime, here is where you can check out the rest of the interview.
