Anxiously waited by a large part of tech industry, Acer's Global press event is now over, leaving us with all sort of mixed impressions and some very interesting product announcements, none of them cooler than the Windows 7 running dual-screen Iconia notebook, Acer's version of the Toshiba's Libretto W105.

As is usually the case with such solutions we won't find any hardware keyboard here, the Iconia using one of the two 14 inch 1368x768 touchscreens to fill this role.

And although this does mean that we won't get the same ease of use that is associated with owning a hardware keyboard, as engadget found in their brief hands-on, Acer will bundle this with a bunch of touchscreen friendly applications that are designed to make life easier for us (Acer Ring being the most impressive).

Moving past its (still) innovative design, we find that the Iconia is more than a pretty face since Acer actually went with some pretty powerful hardware configuration that should make the whole experience worthwhile.

This means that users can choose between three different Intel Core i5 CPUs (480M, 560M and 580M) and add up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, the Iconia also featuring integrated Intel HD graphics, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G WWAN, HDMI output and a USB 3.0 port, all powered by a four-cell battery.

"We took this insight and created a range of easy to use devices with touch technology including smartphones, notebooks, AIO PCs, tablet and our latest addition, the Iconia Touchbook: this level of commitment to touch technology is something no other PC vendor can compete with." states Jim Wong Acer Vice President and ITGO President.

"The Intel Core i5 processor together with our experience with touch technology has allowed us to completely remap the user experience to create a far more natural interaction with our devices.”

And the best about the Iconia is that it will actually be available for purchase sometime during the not so distant future, although, right now, we don't actually know when does Acer plan to release it or for what price, but I am sure we will find out more soon enough.
