Unveiled last month at IFA 2011, in Berlin, Acer Allegro has just received a price tag and release date.

Also known as Acer W4, the Allegro is expected to hit shelves in Europe this holiday season, presumably before Christmas, for 299 EUR (about $408).

We stumbled upon Acer W4 while attending at IFA 2011 trade fair and made a thorough hands-on session with the phone.

Acer representatives told us at that time, that Acer W4 will be officially introduced sometime in October, but it may be launched under a different name.

Today's launch event confirms Acer's initial statements, so Windows Phone enthusiasts should prepare to grab the Allegro just before Christmas.

The phone was available in two colors, Black and White, but additional color schemes may be available for the handset.

Judging by what we've seen at IFA 2011, Acer Allegro is quite the looker, but fails on the hardware side.

Even though Acer Allegro is delivered with Windows Phone Mango, the smartphone comes with the same hardware configuration of the old WP7-based devices.

The phone is equipped with a single core 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM 8255 processor and packs 8GB of internal memory.

Moreover, the device comes with a 3.6-inch WVGA capacitive multi-touch display with 16 million colors support and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

There's no mention of a secondary front facing camera, but Acer Allegro sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features auto-focus and video recording capabilities.

In addition, it appears that the Acer Allegro also lacks LED flash and microSD card slot.

The Windows Phone Mango-based smartphone comes with HSPA 850 / 1900 or 900 / 2100 / and GSM quad-band 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz support.

Other highlights of the phone include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, DLNA function, Bing Search and Bing Maps, along with Xbox LIVE.
