Doesn't require any other power than that provided by the Sun

AUO Optronics, a company that makes the display panels used in many or our smartphones, tablets, or monitors, has recently showcased a prototype flexible ePaper device that uses the Sun to get all the energy it requires for operation.

This creation was built by mounting a flexible photovoltaic battery on to the back of a sheet of flexible e-paper and the end result is nothing short of surprising, as it can be rolled up, but also charged without requiring power from a wall plug.

The photovoltaic cells placed on the back of the device can generate around 130mW of power while being used indoors (in a strong lit room), and even more when placed in direct sun light, says TechOn.

Considering that a page turn consumes about 218mW of power, this means that while using it outside, AUO's device can work without putting any drain on the battery.

The prototype measures 6-inches in diameter and supports a resolution of 800x600 pixels, while weighting just 10 grams. Sadly, AUO hasn't mentioned if it has any plans to release this device to market.
