The company holding the top sport is still Apple, but the competition is closing in

We reported not so long ago that tablet shipments will surpass this year’s worldwide PC shipments in 2016 and the rate at which the shipments are growing is a strong confirmation of that prediction.

Apple is still the world’s top tablet manufacturer and vendor, but we are finally starting to see some real competition building up from the likes of ASUS and Samsung.

Both companies managed to increase their tablet shipments tremendously. In fact, the figure has doubled since Q2 2011.

Samsung reportedly recorded the greatest increase of 117% percent more tablets sold when compared with last year.

ASUS has also managed to achieve more than double, but the company “only” shipped 115% more tablets than last year’s Q2.

Therefore, Samsung is now the world’s second tablet seller, while ASUS occupies the fourth place, behind Amazon.

The interesting part about ASUS is the fact that now they are possibly building twice as many tablets, as the company makes the Nexus 7 series for Google. So expect impressive numbers from ASUS in the following quarters.
