AOC has just announced that its 15.6-inch USB 2.0 portable monitor, unveiled at the end of last year, will be available for a limited time only at the rather low price of $99 (roughly 76 EUR). This offer will be available between March 16 and March 31.

The monitor, which is known as the e1649fwu, is built around a DL-125 chip supplied by DisplayLink, while the panel and most of the other electronics packed inside it were fabricated and designed by AOC.

As far as the panel is concerned, this has a maximum resolution of 1366x768 at 60Hz and its most impressive feature is the fact that is doesn’t require any extra power than the one supplied by the USB port.

This is an especially nice feature for notebook users as they can run the AOC monitor even when there isn’t any electrical plug in sight, provided that they have enough battery on their laptop.

Furthermore, AOC’s creation can be used in both landscape and portrait forms, with the image adjusting to the orientation of the device thanks to a built-in accelerometer, while also being very lite since it weighs just a bit over 2 pounds.

The display will work on most operating systems, including XP, Vista, Windows 7, OSX Tiger, Leopard and Lion, as well as in many Linux distributions.

"This portable USB monitor is very simple to use and enhances productivity more than any other laptop accessory on the market," said Robert Velez, AOC Marketing Manager.

"At a price of only $99, it is a must-have for both mobile professionals and home office users," concluded Velez.

The USB Monitor is available now from various retailers across the US, including BestBuy.com, Costco.com, TigerDirect.com and others, at the above-mentioned $99 (about 76 EUR) price point, which is $40 less than its MSRP.
