Earlier today I told you that sources familiar with matters from the AMD camp claim the Hawaii HTX GPU doesn't exist, and if the announcement left a void in your heart, we have another GPU story for you.

Information coming from the Chinese VR Zone (via Wccftech) exposes the fact that AMD’s upcoming Tonga GPU will arrive sometime this August in order to take the throne of the Tahiti PRO and R9 280 GPU as the newest addition of the mid-end space.

A lot of information about the new GPU isn't available, but the Tonga has been dubbed Radeon R9 285 by the rumor mill. Of course, this name could turn out to be quite wrong.

Judging by the word on the street, the card should arrive with a 256bit interface with 32CUs and 2048SPs.

The GPU is also said to be quite power efficient and could even turn out to get 7GHz memory clock. But again, you need to take this info with a big grain of salt.

Tonga might be based on GCN 2.0 as opposed to GCN 1.1, which is the territory of Hawaii and Bonair.

Since the Tonga GPU will be headed for the mid-end spectrum, we can expect it to be priced around the $200 / €147 margin.
