ALK has just announced the release of their CoPilot Live system in order to improve Nokia N95's GPS receiver. Even if it was quite reliable and fast when
it came to providing exact information on the actual position of the device, some improvements could easily find their place too.

N95 used data transfers in order to make its GPS system properly work. What AKL's CoPilot system additionally brings is the fact that GPS maps are stored on removable storage cards and not transferred each time they are used. Until now, Nokia N95 used to download the location maps through the handset's wireless data connection. This translated into a large amount of money spent for transferring this data and also more time.

ALK's CoPilot Live system is capable of providing the mobile phone user quite fast and reliable positioning. Moreover, it offers navigation information, with turn-by-turn, voice navigation and on-screen maps. One interesting thing about it is that maps can be viewed in 3D, 2D and itinerary modes. Moreover, they take measures as not to distract the driver's attention from the road when driving by displaying a simple direction prompt. This makes it extremely easy to use and to follow even when there are several disturbances on the road.

Even more, this makes an excellent alternative for those who don't like Nokia's GPS version all that much or who just want to reduce the cost that such a service might come for. The map includes 7 digit UK postcodes and provide directions and positioning coordinates down to every detail.

All that SoPilot requires is a Pocket PC, a smartphone and the Symbian based Nokia N70. The software comes in several different shapes, as to match different mobile phone performances. When it comes to memory, it requires a 1 GB SD card available.

The CoPilot Live navigation system is supplied through T-Mobile, Carphone Warehouse and O2 for all those who live in UK and Ireland.
