The video game that took up most of my time this week was Dawn of War II: Retribution, the new strategy game from Relic and THQ, which got a review from Softpedia and a series of Gamer Diaries.

We also have a review for the High Definition remake of Beyond Good & Evil and have started a new set of diaries that focus on Dragon Age 2, the big release from BioWare and Electronic Arts.

We also posted a Weekend Reading feature about strategy gaming and one of its possible futures and an EndWeekGame piece about how the gaming department is spending its free weekend hours.

And here's a selection of the most important news of last week.

On Monday, the developers at DICE talked about how the upcoming Battlefield 3 will look on gaming consoles, after delivering their initial demo on the PC, while Epic Games has announced that the beta stage for Gears of War 3 is set to launch on April 18.

On Tuesday, Dragon Age 2 was launched and BioWare quickly delivered a high definition texture pack for the PC version of the game, allowing us to make some quick comparisons, while Blizzard talked about its future MMO project Titan, saying that it would not compete directly with World of Warcraft.

On Wednesday, rumors appeared that the new Grand Theft Auto game might be under development under the name Rush while Gabe Newell, the leader of Valve, talked a bit about Counter Strike 2 and when it might be launched.

Thursday was all about the 3.60 firmware for the PlayStation 3, which Sony says allows cloud storage for games and one hacker believes that can make the Sony home console secure again against piracy.

On Friday, we talked about the NPD Group numbers for February, which showed the Xbox 360 and Call of Duty: Black Ops as the best sold console and video game, while a long-awaited Complete Mod for STALKER: Call of Prypiat was released.
