This week, one of my colleagues was over in Germany covering Gamescom and, as a result, we deliver a smaller number of Softpedia reviews, including: Spelunky on the PC, an interesting mining-based experience, Gone Home, a narrative-driven game with a big emotional punch, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist, the newest Sam Fisher based title.

As always, we also have a Weekend Reading feature that deals with the importance of the announcement that Xbox One pre-orders will contain codes for FIFA 14 in Europe.

The Gamer Diary continues to follow my adventures playing as France in Europa Universalis IV, with a slight detour to take a look at Burgundy.

And there's also a handy tag to follow all the previews coming from Gamescom.

We also have an EndWeekGame piece that talks about how we plan to spend our free time and a selection of the most interesting news of the past seven-day period.

On Monday, Disney announced that the first patch for its Infinity title was causing freezes for many players and advised gamers to actually uninstall it, while DICE talked about how the suppression mechanic was redesigned for Battlefield 4 in order to make the Support class more useful.

Tuesday, Sony announced at Gamescom that the PlayStation 4 would be out on November 15 in North America and on November 29 in Europe, and Microsoft countered by revealing that all pre-orders for the Xbox One in Europe will include a FIFA 14 code.

Wednesday, Blizzard showed Reaper of Souls for Diablo 3, and DICE presented the expansions it has planned for Battlefield 4.

Thursday, Infinity Ward revealed the seven new game modes in Call of Duty: Ghosts, and the ESRB talked about some of the violent content that will be included in GTA V.

On Friday, BioWare talked about the somewhat open nature of Dragon Age: Inquisitionwhile Warner explained how the inclusion of new costumes in Batman: Arkham Origins will create connections with the character.

Saturday, Minecraft finally got update 12 on the Xbox 360 and Microsoft announced an Upload Outreach Program for the Xbox One.
