A lot of things happened

Hello and welcome to another edition of A Gamer's Week, your roundup of the most important gaming events that happened during the last seven days. We've been host to quite a few big talks about games and consoles, following last week's GamesCon and BlizzCon gatherings so, without further ado, here's this edition of A Gamer's Week.

Monday was all about Sony, which talked about the fact that the upcoming PlayStation 3 Slim would have no backward compatibility, mostly because the game library of the PS3 was large enough to accommodate all people. Sticking with Sony and a very precious franchise for the PlayStation brand, the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 is rumored to have over 1,000 cars in its roster, which makes it the biggest racing simulator in the world, overtaking its Arch rival, Forza Motorsport 3.

Tuesday saw a few news reports about two respected franchises, as Mass Effect 2 will hit both PCs and the Xbox 360 console at the same time, so nobody can get upset. Nobody except PlayStation 3 owners, who still haven't played the first title. Still on the games subject, the upcoming WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 wrestling game received quite a few details from THQ. From new customization options to fighting modes, there will be plenty of innovations featured in the multi-platform title.

Wednesday was all about the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm expansion, as Blizzard revealed not only just what new things it would bring for guilds and how it would support them, but also why the developers chose to bump the level cap to 85, and not to 90, as it had been rumored before.

Thursday we remained with Blizzard, which revealed that future RPG Diablo III might make its way onto consoles in order to cater to a bigger audience. We'll bring you the confirmation as soon as we get it. Bungie then took the stage to reveal that Halo: Reach, due out in 2010, might not be the last Halo project from the studio. Nobody wants to try something new if the old franchise is still making huge amounts money, it would seem.

The last day of the week was when Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg talked with various media outlets about the official price cut received by the Xbox 360 Elite version, which will sell for $299, just as a PS3 Slim, and will replace the current Xbox 360 Pro model, which won’t appear on store shelves from now on. He also revealed that the Xbox 360 was great how it was and that no supposed Xbox 360 Slim would appear in the near future in order to give Sony a bigger challenge.

I also published my review of Wolfenstein, a game that could have been much more than it actually is. Hopefully the development studios will have learned from their mistakes. For all of the latest news, reviews and demos, head over to the dedicated games section here at Softpedia.
