From time to time, we happen to come across certain products that leave us wondering just why nobody had thought of creating them before, and this is pretty much the case with the Elecom 4-slot memory card reader, that has just been released on the Japanese market.

Since just about everyone's using a digital camera nowadays and the wide majority of digital cameras employed by mainstream consumers use Secure Digital (SD) memory cards for storing photos, it should come as no surprise that the need for a device that will enable users to transfer photos found on multiple cards also becomes more dire. And, in fact, that's exactly what the new device from Elecom offers users, allowing one to connect up to 4 different SD memory cards to a single computer. Plus, we're not talking just about standard Secure Digital cards here, since the microSD, microSDHC and miniSD cards are also supported, via their specific dedicated adapters, of course. The card reader will work with cards attaining a maximum storage capacity of around 64GB, but, unfortunately, the transfer speed won't help much when dealing with a large quantity of photos, given the fact that it's capped at 480 Mbps (USB 2.0). Users won't have to worry about extra power adapters for this card reader (it's completely USB powered), and the same goes for the space it will require around the house, given the fact that we're only talking about 36.0 x 36.0 x 38.5mm. The card reader is set to arrive on the market at some point in mid-December, pricing being set somewhere in the vicinity of 3,980.00 Japanese Yen (or 47 US dollars). Not really bad, is it, especially when you're in a hurry to clean up all your memory cards before going on your next holiday in some exotic location.
