LG Electronics has recently announced that it has surpassed the 2 million LG Optimus One units sold milestone. Less than a month after the handset manufacturer announced that it had sold 1 million Optimus One smartphones worldwide, LG has doubled the number.

The announcement comes only one day after the LG stated that its Optimus One smartphone would get the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade, which makes the device even more appealing.

“The Optimus One reached 1 million sales in about 40 days from its launch in mid-November,” the company said in a statement. “And in about 20 days, another 1 million phones were delivered.”

LG’s mobile unit delivered about 1.3 million Optimus One devices in North America, as the smartphone was picked by five major carriers and sold under different names: the LG Vortex for Verizon, the LG Optimus S for Sprint, the LG Optimus T for T-Mobile, the LG Optimus U for U.S. Cellular and the LG Optimus M for MetroPCS.

Currently, the company sold around 450,000 Optimus One units in South-Korea. LG aims to sell more than 10 million Optimus One smartphones, but there's no telling when exactly the company manages to attain such a high milestone.

For those out of the loop, LG Optimus One is powered by a 600 MHz processor and runs the latest Android 2.2 Froyo platform, which is officially upgradable to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

It comes with a 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen with 262k colors and 320 x 480 pixel resolution, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate and proximity sensor for auto turn-off of the screen.

The device measures 113.5 x 59 x 13.3 mm, weighs 129g (battery included) and comes with a Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery that should last up to 700 hours standby mode or 8 hours talk time.

Other key features of the Optimus One include: HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, GPS with A-GPS support, 170 MB internal memory, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2GB card included), Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support and 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and video recording function.
