When the Boxee Box was launched, the company was quick to point out that by the end of the year we should expect Netflix to come to the platform, but things don't look so certain anymore as 2010 is quickly drawing to an end and Netflix support is nowhere to be seen.

Launched in the US and Canada at the beginning of November, the Boxee Box media player fared a lot better than D-Link expected it, recent reports suggesting that demand has outgrown supply, leading Boxee to increase its sales target for 2011.

However, in spite of its success, the platform hasn't managed to deliver on its promise of enabling Netflix support by the end of the year and it looks highly unlikely that this is going to happen in the few hours that remain until 2010 comes to an end.

Usually, new apps, such as that needed for users to watch Netflix on-demand video content, are delivered via a firmware update.

However, before such an update goes live, the company sends it to a limited number of beta testers, from the Boxee community, that check to see if everything is in order with the firmware.

The company used this system for all its previous updates, so its fairly safe to assume that the new firmware won't be released until the end of the year.

This situation has caused outrage in the Boxee forums, many users complaining about this missing feature.

Boxee has promised Netflix and Hulu Plus support during the players official US and Canada launch event, the company even showcasing a special remote that had a Netflix button added to it.

Furthermore, on December 14, when the latest Boxee Box firmware was released, the outfit said that another firmware update is due to arrive before year's end, bringing major improvements to the browsers, new content and apps, but this remains MIA.
