GoSolarUSA, the company that plans to offer U.S. residents Yosion’s Apple Peel 520 slide-on case that turns iPod touches into phones, has signed a purchase order for 100 demonstration units that are now making their way into the U.S.

The 100 units purchased by GoSolarUSA will be among the first to arrive in the States, the company said in a report.

As usual, the official report includes a description of the device, with GoSolarUSA explaining that “The Apple Peel 520 is a protective skin that slips over Apple’s iPod Touch media player and adds the ability to make voice calls and send text messages, mimicking the functionality of the electronics giant’s more expensive iPhone.”

The Peel also includes a 4.5-hour battery, dock connector and SIM card, all fitted to turn the iPod touch into a communications device, while also extending its battery life.

It requires a jailbroken iPod touch to work.

ThePresident and CEO of GoSolarUSA, Tyson Rohde, announced in an early statement that his visit to Yosion’s HQ in China this week would materialize in 100 demo units being brought back with him to the U.S., when he returns.

“We plan to begin distributing these 100 Peels to retail buyers and media outlets across the country as soon as we can,” said Tyson Rohde, President and CEO of GoSolarUSA.

“We’ve already received inquiries from major American retailers regarding the device’s availability. The technology is real, and it’s ready for a proper American debut.”

The report also reminds those who are tracking the progress of the Apple Peel 520 that GoSolarUSA inked a distribution agreement with Yosion giving the company exclusive rights to distribute the accessory in North America.

“The response to Yosion’s Apple Peel 520 by Chinese consumers thus far has been thrilling,” Rohde said. “Retailers are selling out. It’s a scene we’d very much like to replicate in America this holiday season.”

Rohde believes that GoSolarUSA will not only replicate this success in North America, which the company touts as “the world’s largest market for iPod accessories,” but that it will sell even better.

It remains to be seen whether the accessory will sell at all, should Chinese analysts’ predictions prove accurate, in that the Peel could be the subject of a lawsuit between Apple and GoSolarUSA, Yosion, or both.
