Video game publisher Activision Blizzard has announced that it has commissioned developer Eurocom to work on a new James Bond-themed video game called 007 Legends, which is set to use the entire history of the movie series as inspiration.

The new game will “recreate a number of the character's most iconic moments from the silver screen” and will serve to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the series.

David Oxford, the executive vice president at Activision, stated, “To honor 50 years of the world's top secret agent, '007: Legends' offers a collection of his most famed moments.

“Creating a videogame storyline that ties together six popular, yet very different, Bond movie narratives can be challenging, but together with EON Prods, our developer Eurocom has pulled it off.”

Activision did not say which six films the story in 007 Legends will be based on, but it confirmed that it will be linked to the narrative thread in the upcoming Skyfall movie, which probably means that the Daniel Craig version of James Bond will be the protagonist.

007 Legends will also include four-player split-screen multiplayer, something that fans of the series have always appreciated, and it will apparently allow gamers to play as a number of iconic villains from the James Bond movies.

MI-6 challenges are also included in the new game, although Activision did not say whether they would be based on the movies in the Bond series or created from scratch by the Eurocom team.

Activision has managed to acquire the rights to the Bond universe for use in video games back in 2006, but the publisher has failed to create a game that does justice to the Ian Fleming-created character.

007 Legends will be launched on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC during the fall of the year.
