Zentyal Server 5.0 Out Now Based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, Adds New HTTP Proxy Module

On November 29, 2016, the Zentyal development team proudly announced the release and immediate availability for download of the Zentyal Server 5.0 Linux-based server-oriented operating system with Active Directory interoperability.

Based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus), Zentyal Server 5.0 comes with the latest Open Source software and GNU/Linux technologies, including an untouched Samba 4.5.1 implementation from upstream, which puts a layer of performance to the AD (Active Directory) interoperability of the small business server.

"The Zentyal integration code has been rewritten to no longer need the custom patches, this will result in more stability and maintainability, getting newer versions quicker," reads the release announcement. "NSS/PAM is now managed with winbind instead of sssd, which is the recommended way."

SOGo 3.2.1 integrated, new HTTP Proxy module added

Zentyal Server 5.0 also ships with the trusted SOGo 3.2.1 groupware server, which features a brand-new, modern web-based user interface based on recent technologies and designed to offer users an improved look and feel with its stunning visual effects, as well as more usability and improvements on the ActiveSync implementation.

Moreover, there's now a new HTTP Proxy module, and it looks like the daemon management implementation now uses the powerful systemd init system instead of Upstart. The internal ACL management was simplified, Perl 5.22 support has been integrated, and DNS updates are now done via GSS-TSIG.

If you're using Zentyal Server from the 4.x series, it is recommended that you update to Zentyal Server 5.0 as soon as possible, but unfortunately, the upgrade path is not currently open, which means that you'll have to reinstall or wait until the development team comes up with the best procedure.
