Apple is prepping new iPhone models for September

If you’re an Apple enthusiast, then you’re probably eagerly awaiting autumn, when the Cupertino tech giant is poised to unveil new iPhone models. While we wait for the grand event to actually happen, concept designers have been teasing us with imaginary appearances of the upcoming iPhone.

One concept in particular proved to be quite interesting. It was produced by popular designer Martin Hajek and depicts a phone that bundles a home button embedded directly into the display, which also acts as a fingerprint scanner. And now, a recent report coming out of Digi Times seems to indicate that Apple is indeed looking to make this scenario a reality.

The Asian publication has a mixed track record, so you’d better take this information with a big grain of salt. According to the sources in Taiwan’s IC design industry, Apple is in the process of internally developing touch and display driver integration (TDDI) single-chip solutions for its upcoming phone models.

A virtual button would change the face of future iPhones

The future iPhone models are said to be ultra-thin, boast ultra-narrow displays and come with a plane design that will eliminate the Home button altogether. The TDDI single-chip solution would also house integrated fingerprint sensors.

We shouldn’t be too surprised if Apple does indeed choose to go down this path. After all, the company does design its own CPUs. The missing physical button should probably translate into a phone with a thinner bezel and a larger screen without increasing the overall size of the device.

Apart from removing the physical button from the picture, Apple is also rumored to be looking to increase the resolution on its future iPhone models. So if we’re to listen to the rumor mill, the iPhone 6s will take advantage of 1920 x 1080 pixels and the iPhone 6s Plus will boast 2K (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution.

Despite the intention, Apple might not be able to pull things through, though, as we’re being told that Cupertino has been facing troubles with in-cell touch technology advancements and various production bottlenecks.

Other specifications we expect the new iPhones to bundle on launch include a new A9 processor, 2GB of RAM, 12MP camera on the back, and iOS 9 pre-installed out of the box.
