The Galaxy S10 will be Samsung’s first smartphone ever to feature a fingerprint sensor embedded into the screen, but this new implementation comes with its very own pros and cons.

For example, while it makes it a lot more convenient to unlock the device even with just one hand, it creates a major setback for customers who want to use a screen protector on the display.

Because as revealed by case maker Armadillotek, not all screen protectors work on the Galaxy S10, as some of the versions currently available on the market actually block the fingerprint sensor.

The fingerprint reader will be placed under the glass, so if the screen protector itself will be too thick, there’s a good chance the sensor would fail to produce any readings, so the unlocking would be impossible.

S10 launching on February 20

Needless to say, this is something that other accessory manufacturers are probably working on addressing, so there’s a chance that at some point in the coming months, a screen protector with 100 percent accuracy would make it to the market.

In the meantime, Samsung might really end up having a major problem if screen protectors do not work on the Galaxy S10, especially because rumor has it that the top-of-the-range configuration could go way beyond the $1,000 threshold.

Customers buy such screen protectors to avoid physical damage to the display, and when paying that much on a phone, it goes without saying that this kind of third-party upgrade is a must.

The Galaxy S10 will see daylight on February 20, while sales should kick off in early March. This is one of the questions that Samsung will have to answer at the unveiling next month, and there’s no doubt the company will address this topic given that it could easily convince some customers to hold on to their purchase if screen protectors aren’t supported.
