Concept imagines a more modern look for Windows 10

Windows 10 concepts are nothing new, as more and more design ideas keep making the headlines every now and then, but some of them are so good that Microsoft would really do itself a favor by checking them out.

This concept right here, which was shared on Twitter earlier today by @vastglad, proposes a more modern look for Windows 10, including an overhaul of the Start menu.

And while there still are a few things that would require additional polishing, let’s start with the parts that look sexy.

The Start menu, for example, gives up on the live tiles, but instead uses a more static approach similar to the one in Windows 10X. Live tiles are replaced with icons, which feature a cool shadow effect, but also with what could be described as widgets - the Tasks section, for example, displays a list of the upcoming events, while also letting you create new tasks right from the Start menu.

Windows 10 and Fluent Design

Overall, it’s pretty clear that this design looks fresh and modern, but at the same time, it also wastes too much space on the screen in several key areas. The header of the Settings app is one example in this regard, and the same for File Explorer, where using all the available screen estate to improve file management is essential.

Certainly, users expect a more modern experience in Windows 10, and while Microsoft has previously promised to deliver it with Fluent Design, it obviously takes longer than anticipated for the whole thing to happen.

Microsoft is rolling out additional Fluent Design improvements at a rather slow pace, so it’ll take a while until the entire Windows 10 experience gets a full overhaul. In the meantime, these concepts keep coming, hopefully with bigger chances for Microsoft to check them out and use the ideas they’re based on for improving the operating system.
