While all eyes are on the Galaxy Note 10 projected to launch in just one week, Samsung is also hard at work on another project, according to a recent report.

The South Korean company might bring back the Galaxy Active phone lineup with a completely new model expected to see daylight on August 9.

Simply called Samsung Galaxy Active, this new rugged phone won’t be based on the latest Galaxy S model, but would actually borrow some tech specs from the previous versions.

For example, AH writes that the device would feature the camera configuration available on the Galaxy S9 (8-megapixel selfie camera and 12.2-megapixel primary camera), but otherwise boast rather modest specs.

Sold by AT&T in the US

The Samsung Galaxy Active, which is expected to come with a 5.2-inch display with physical buttons at the bottom, would be powered by the Exynos 9610 processor and run Android 8.1. With a 4,500 mAh battery, the new phone would be primarily aimed at those looking for a durable handset, so the focus would be most likely on how rugged it is and the how long the battery can last.

Interestingly, the cited source indicates that while the phone will be sold by AT&T, Samsung doesn’t necessarily aim for consumers, but it mostly wants to sell it to organizations that need a durable device. For instance, fire and police departments in the United States could sign deals with AT&T to purchase the Galaxy Active, albeit the phone will also be available in stores.

For the time being, there is no information on whether Samsung wants to expand the Galaxy Active lineup with versions based on the latest-generation Galaxy S models.

However, depending on how this first model of the Galaxy Active sells, Samsung can reassess its plans and keep the rugged phone alive, and this is something that should really happen given how easy it is to break a $1,000+ smartphone these days.
