As if the number of unwanted apps coming on new smartphones wasn’t already big enough, Samsung and Spotify decided to expand their partnership with a new agreement that brings the music service pre-installed on all devices sold by the South Korean firm.

Spotify announces in a press release that their app coming pre-installed on Samsung smartphones is a continuation of the collaboration between the two companies that was first revealed in August 2018.

As a result, all new Samsung phones will be pre-loaded with Spotify, including the recently-released Galaxy S10, S10, and S10e, but also the 5G version, Galaxy Fold, and a number of Galaxy A devices.

Additionally, customers of new Samsung phones in the United States will be provided with six months of free access to Spotify premium, and the offer can be redeemed straight from the pre-installed app.

The Samsung and Spotify deal

Last year, Samsung signed Spotify as its “go-to music service provider,” which means it became the preferred service that the company offered to its customers.

“It’s a new level of integration that will allow Spotify to be easily accessible and discoverable on Samsung Devices. As you move from room to room, your devices will be aware of your location and prompt you to effortlessly transition your listening between them,” Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said at that time.

However, while some would consider Spotify being offered pre-installed as a neat approach, especially if they are existing customers of the service, others are very likely to add it to the list of bloatware that needs to be removed after setting up the phone.

Samsung is already offering a handful of apps pre-loaded on its devices, including a series of solutions from Microsoft, like the Office productivity suite, Skype, and LinkedIn, and by the looks of things, the company has no intention to stop here.
