The company discusses premium pricing with its customers

Many believe iPhones are overpriced, as the 12 Pro Max reaches nearly $1,500 when maxed out. But of course, this doesn’t mean these smartphones aren’t selling like hotcakes, so investing in premium products with a high price has attracted the attention of many other companies.

Xiaomi, a company that has managed to gain substantial market share thanks to its affordable offering, seems to be looking at higher price tags too.

And its target appears to be close to $1,500, as the company has started asking customers what they think about this price tag for a Xiaomi device.

“If Xiaomi released a high-end mobile phone worth 10,000 yuan, would you buy it? If we want to make a high-end mobile phone with a price of over 10,000 yuan, what should it look like?” Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun asked his followers on Weibo.

No specifics on this mysterious device

Of course, the company hasn’t shared any details on this device, though it’s pretty clear Xiaomi is working on something truly ambitious here, as a regular phone is unlikely to carry such a high price tag.

Needless to say, everybody believes Xiaomi is ready to step into the foldable device market, as such a smartphone priced at $1,500 would make perfect sense. Specifics aren’t available right now, but stepping into premium price territory requires a high-end model, there’s no doubt about it.

The highest Xiaomi has gone so far in terms of pricing is the Mi 10 Ultra, which cost more than $1,000, but at first glance, the company is ready to go for a new milestone.

For the time being, however, you’d better not hold your breath for such an expensive Xiaomi smartphone, though we should expect the company to share more info on its plans in the coming months.
