Xiaomi is already working on the next-generation Mi Band, with the launch expected later this year, and while the company is trying to keep all details secret, here’s a leak providing us with a closer look at what the new fitness brand could bring to the market.

According to recent code findings, the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Band 6 could get massive hardware upgrades, and it all starts with built-in GPS.

In other words, if you work out with the Mi Band, you no longer need a smartphone for tracking, as the device includes its very own GPS sensor to map your workouts. Most likely, the Mi Band will provide a closer look at your session when you end it right on the smartphone.

Then, the device is likely to increase a blood oxygen level sensor, something that has become quite common on today’s smartwatches. The SpO2 sensor will allow monitoring of the blood oxygen just like the more expensive alternatives out there, though of course, it remains to be seen how everything is going to work on the device.

Hello, digital assistants!

And last but not least, it looks like Xiaomi is looking into adding assistant support on the next Mi Band, though contrary to what you expect, the company’s choice isn’t Google Assistant. The Xiaomi Mi Band 6 could therefore come with Alexa built-in, thus allowing you to interact with the device using voice commands.

However, there’s a chance the Alexa integration would only be available when the connection to the smartphone is active, so for example, you won’t be able to use the assistant when you work out without the phone in your pocket.

As for the launch of the new Mi Band, it’s likely to go live later this year, but any specifics in this regard are not yet available.
