The most recent optional cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1903 and 1909 introduces a new warning in Internet Explorer that indicates the Flash Player support is coming to an end.

In other words, once you install this cumulative update, you should see a warning in Internet Explorer that Flash Player is being retired.

“Important Reminder: Flash Player’s end of life is December 31, 2020. Please see this Flash Player EOL Information page for more details,” the warning reads.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced that both Microsoft Edge, including here the legacy version of the browser and the Chromium-powered sibling, as well as Internet Explorer, would no longer support Flash Player after the end of 2020.

“After December 2020, you will no longer receive “Security Update for Adobe Flash Player” from Microsoft that applies to Microsoft Edge Legacy and Internet Explorer 11. Beginning in January 2021, Adobe Flash Player will be disabled by default and all versions older than KB4561600 released in June 2020 will be blocked. Downloadable resources related to Adobe Flash Player that are hosted on Microsoft websites will no longer be available,” Microsoft explained.

Internet Explorer 11 no longer a recommended browser

Adobe announced the end of support for Flash Player back in 2017, at which point the company said that late 2020 would be the moment when its software is supposed to go dark.

Now browser makers are aligning their cycles with Adobe’s, so Flash Player would soon be pulled from the majority of browsers out there.

As for Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft recommends against using it as a daily browser in the first place, instead telling users to try out Microsoft Edge. The Chromium browser comes with a feature lineup that’s similar to Google Chrome’s and is available not only on Windows but also on macOS.
